The city is one of the city of Tarakan in East Kalimantan province,Indonesia. The city has an area of 657.33 km ² and in accordancewith Agency data for Population and Family Planning CivilCatatatan Tarakan City in March 2006, has a population of193,069 inhabitants (the Indonesian Population Census 2010).Tarakan or also known as Earth Paguntaka, located on an islandlocated in the northern East Kalimantan.

History
Tarakan according to folklore comes from the language Tidung, namely continence (met) and Ngakan (eat), which literally means "Place of the fishermen to take a break to eat, meet and barter with the catch of other fishermen.
